Whoever gets pregnant first wins! Woo!
Oh. My. God. As if people need to “glorify” having children any more, Russia has decided to make it a contest. They have now declared September 12, the Day of Conception in hope that it will lead to a plethora of babies being born on their “National Day” which happens to be 9 months later. And they call the Childfree selfish? Last year’s “winner” won an SUV while others won video cameras, TVs, etc. Is it nauseating in here, or is it just me? Someone needs to tell them that with the money they saved not having children, they could probably afford that new SUV or TV with a lot less pain and suffering. (Yes, that’s what I equate having children to.) True, I would love to be given a new SUV, but if that meant I had to give up the next 18+ years of my life for some little heathen child…no thank you. Personally, I’d rather dig my eye out with a spoon.
What happens to those who get the end result (a bouncing, baby brat) but *gasp* don’t win a prize? Well, welcome to Everyday Parenthood! That’s right, I hope you wanted that baby because while an SUV might last you 5-10 years, you’ve got that child for the rest of it’s life in some form or fashion. Enjoy.
Why does this bring to mind the vision of hundreds of salmon spawning upstream? **shudder** Go ahead and go read the whole thing…
Oh, and if you anger easily at the stupidity of people, you may need to stay away from the Comments section of that article. Just a friendly warning, you know, Childfree to Childfree.

This is complete and utter bullshit.
How about a contest for ADOPTING the kids that are already here who have been abandoned?
That seems like a far more noble cause to me.
Ignorant assclowns.

Great blog here. As a childfree person myself, I am glad to see we have a good online community thing going.
Back on topic, there is some real shit posed on thos comments such as this gem from a loony fundie who says that ‘overpopulation is a lie’. To me that is dangerous and if these religious nutters want to live on a hellish overcrowded planet with no animals or nature left then they are frankly mad.

Stories like this are very disturbing. Governments don’t need to provide any more incentive to breed. The planet is burdened enough. Besides, there will always be people gagging for the chance to produce offspring. Gawd! I’m happy that I will not have to worry about the long term effects of overpopulation and how these factors will impact my children.
