Picking up the slack…

Sorry I’ve been away for a while.  I’ve been crazy busy at work.  I’m actually going to be taking over for a woman that’s going on maternity leave (I know, the irony…).  I was frustrated since that meant that I had to handle and learn all of her accounts as well as deal with an increased workload.  Fortunately, they haven’t been too difficult to juggle.  Plus, it’s paid off.  I didn’t think too much of it, but my boss has been keeping a close eye on how I’ve handled things (and for the first time in my career, I actually like my boss) and today she offered me a PROMOTION which I definitely accepted.

Yay!  It’s more money and more opportunity and I’m definitely excited.  I guess this is one of the good things about having to pick up the slack for the parents.  Also, they were tossing around the idea of sending her to this conference in Vegas in a few months, but oooh…so sad, she won’t be able to make it because she’ll be changing diapers.  So, guess who might be packing her bags for Sin City in her place?  ;)

Yep…not a bad Friday the 13th so far.  :)

Isn’t recognition for stepping up when they become members of Breederville great?! At my job, I got a bonus, didn’t that piss off a few moomies, so now I look for every opportunity to show them up, and make me look good. Junior has a game, Bratgelina has to have her braces tightened, you need to have that bun in the oven checked to see if it’s done yet? Then let me finish that report for you, I’ll be happy to finish those project manuals, and don’t worry, I can work with YOUR boss and plan that big meeting. You just keep on squirting out those kids you can’t afford, using up your vacation for maternity leave, while I keep earning all that disposable income, and spend a week in the Bahamas}-)

  2. CONGRATULATIONS on the promotion! Many people argue that it is unfair to mothers to have their careers negatively effected by their maternity leave time, but thems the breaks. If I suddenly took 6 months off I wouldn’t expect a fat promotion, a raise and a conference upon my return.

  3. Take your time!! no need to rush posting

Congrats on the promotion!!!!!!!!!! And I agree – you get what you work for and you make the choice between being on mat leave and NOT getting a promotion or a raise, or working hard for 6 months w/o child, and getting a raise.

Hell yeah! Congratulations on the promotion and possible trip to Vegas. We were there in February to see George Carlin and were ASTONISHED by the number of kids freely roaming the casinos and The Strip. We have pics of people pushing their strollers down The Strip at 1:00 a.m. Crazy. No place is safe…

Wow–congrats! That is so fantastic! It’s great to hear that your hard work and going the extra mile to cover for a co-worker parent paid off! So often it’s just expected of us–no questions asked. We are just presumed to be the ones who pick up the slack left by co-workers on maternity leave. And usually you go unrewarded and under-appreciated. Awesome! Hey–life is all about choices. There are trade offs in life depending on our choices–that’s just the way it is. I’m so sick of all the attention these breeders get all the time. It’s nice to hear that someone like you was recognized and rewarded for your dedication and hard work!!

Oh… I wish that were still me. I am a parent and somewhat a little jealous but it is what I chose.I love my kids, but I miss work and grown ups to talk to. Now I run a daycare in my house for a living and sometimes think three kids? what the hell was I thinking?
